From this point, the instructions appear to omit the preparation of several walls, including the base floor and right wall. This can disrupt the sequence of steps, as suddenly multiple elements appear completed without explanation. I then realized that both the base floor and right wall preparation was part of the wallpapering tips guide segment, so they can be easily overlooked. Be careful with this as you can accidentally miss necessary steps.
The base floor of the dollhouse needs covering first. I did not heed my own advice and due to its size, I used tacky glue instead of wallpaper paste to apply the paper cover to it. However, this resulted in wrinkles, particularly noticeable on the hardwood flooring print. I am not sure why this occurred because I have used tacky glue to apply paper coverings on DIY kits before, without major issues. It may not be the ideal glue to use, resulting in minor imperfections, but this time around the results were completely unacceptable.
Since half of this floor is covered with a raised flooring segment, I covered the other half with carpet made from felt, matching the dollhouse's interior color. This solution worked well since this is the living room area.
This experience highlights the importance of using the recommended adhesive (Stik-Flat glue or glue stick) for this shiny paper, regardless of panel size. This paper is very finicky and does not hide imperfections well. Its shiny surface only highlights flaws, no matter how minor. I still have wrinkles visible on the stone print but I am hoping it flattens out more as it continues to dry. If it doesn't, I will have to find some way to solve it later on.
Additionally, I noticed alignment issues with the kit's components. I have been noticing this since I started on this kit. The raised flooring segment for the dining room doesn't match the base floor's guide lines. This flooring segment appears smaller than the guide lines suggest, which may cause problems when installing the columns. Let's see how that goes when I get to the second floor.
This kit is already posing some significant challenges and I can only hope it gets better over time and not worse.
Before assembling the structure, install the music box on the back wall and the window curtain. Then, wallpaper the right wall and you'll be ready to begin positioning the walls. Use masking tape to clamp everything together until the glue dries, just like you would for a traditional dollhouse. Let it dry thoroughly at this stage before continuing because these panels are heavier than a tab-and-slot dollhouse's and adding too many of them, too quickly, might make the structure unstable, hindering proper adhesion of the glue.
