Fairy Tale Homestead Day 77

This dollhouse is complete, and I must admit, it’s an endeavor I won’t attempt again. While Flever kits work well for room boxes and small displays, building a full dollhouse of this scale and complexity is a completely different experience. I managed to finish it relatively quickly, but I believe it would take much longer for someone without prior experience.

I wouldn’t recommend this kit to anyone unfamiliar with miniatures or Flever kits specifically. Despite my experience assembling several kits before, this was the most challenging project I’ve ever undertaken. It’s likely no longer listed on Amazon due to complaints, as the listing doesn’t mention its difficulties. Many buyers might assume they’ll have a beautiful dollhouse ready in a few days, only to realize they’ve underestimated the complexity.

This is not a play dollhouse but rather a display piece for adult collectors. It’s too delicate for a child’s room and not designed to be moved around. Even the hinged panels require careful handling, as they’re barely secured. The paper roof and foundation are easily damaged or torn.

The kit itself is unnecessarily difficult to assemble. It lacks notches or tabs to hold pieces in place while the glue dries, making tasks like building staircases and railings particularly frustrating. The railings are fragile and prone to snapping because they aren’t well-supported. The instruction photos make the process look simple, but in practice, assembly is far more challenging, and the results rarely match the polished images.

Measurements for parts are often inaccurate, with items either too large or too small. Templates suffer from the same issue. Additionally, the instructions, schematics, and bagged parts are confusing. Parts are hard to locate because they aren’t labeled clearly, requiring guesswork to identify them.

The lighting provided is minimal but still results in unsightly wires running along ceilings, wall corners, and floor edges. While some wires can be hidden by furniture, those who dislike visible wiring may want to consider alternative lighting solutions.

The kit includes limited materials, so it’s important to cut fabric and corrugated cardboard carefully and sparingly. The wallpaper and flooring are delicate and prone to creasing or scratching. Use appropriate wallpaper paste to avoid bubbling or buckling; other adhesives won’t work well with this type of paper.

You’ll need various adhesives — silicone, tacky glue, clear tacky glue, hot melt glue, and metal adhesive — depending on the material you’re working with. Some of the provided fabric is stiff and frays easily, making it difficult to use at such small scales; you may want to replace it with more manageable alternatives.

The furniture and accessories in the kit are mixed scales — not true to scale — but designed to fit within this dollhouse.

Overall, the dollhouse is cute and impressive, with lighting that enhances its appearance. However, I wouldn’t attempt it again. If you enjoy difficult challenges and have several months available, you might give this kit a try if it becomes available on Amazon again or through another vendor.
