Fairy Tale Homestead Day 17

Now that the second floor is completely dry, I continued adding the rest of the floors and walls to the dollhouse. These were easy to install and did not pose any difficulties. The third floor fit snugly against all walls, unlike the second floor, which had a noticeable gap along the right wall. I initially thought this was due to warping, but it seems that the second floor was simply not cut correctly. Several components in this dollhouse have had similar issues so far, though your kit might not.

To hide the gap, I made some inventive repairs. I used a strip of edge flooring paper left over from the first floor raised segment and glued it along the gap, flush against the right wall. Then, I added a small piece of strip wood to extend the front edge of the floor up to the right wall, color-matching it to the rest of the dollhouse exterior. Now, there are no visible flaws on the second floor. Later, I will use a strip of masking tape to cover the gap along the ceiling side. Although it is not visible, the masking tape closely matches the dollhouse color and will help conceal any gaps if someone happens to bend down and look up towards the ceiling.

These issues are not unique to this kit; all dollhouse kits can present similar problems. Just like the finished result, dollhouse kit flaws are unique and may not affect every kit unless there was a production issue. Therefore, problem-solving is part of the experience when assembling any dollhouse.
